Onsight Rock Gym is a brand new, world-class indoor rock climbing gym in Knoxville. Featuring over 12,000 sq feet of climbing surface and walls that soar over 50 feet tall, we are Knoxville's largest and tallest rock climbing gym. Onsight offers top rope/lead climbing and bouldering for all ages and abilities as well as a wide array of programming for adults and youth. Onsight even has a separate climbing room for private parties and events. We are proud to be a part of Knoxville's community! 

Lead Climbing

Adult Instruction

  • All classes are for ages 13 and over

  • All classes include Day Pass (to climb the remainder of the day of the class) and Rental Gear

  • Bookings must be made and paid for more than 48 hours in advance. Walk-ins may be available on occasion but not guaranteed.

  • Reservations must be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance for a full refund. Within the 48 hours before the class, your booking can be moved to another date.

Lead CLASS

This introductory 2-part class provides a comprehensive instruction on indoor lead climbing and belaying. Lead climbing is often the next step in rock climbing for the seasoned top rope climber and offers a new level of mental and physical challenges. During this class, we will cover all the basic techniques and skills of lead climbing. You will learn to how to safely take a lead fall and how to provide a soft catch in the event of a fall. We will make every effort to emphasize efficiency and risk management. Upon completion of this class, most participants should be ready to take the Lead Belay and Climbing Test. Participants must return on a separate day to take the Lead Belay and Climbing Test. 

Prerequisites: Top Rope Belay Certification, Ability to climb 5.10b. or higher, and a recommended one year of top rope experience. If only one person is signed up for the class with only 48 hours remaining until the scheduled start time, the class will need to be rescheduled.

Length: 2 classes, 2 hours each

Cost:  Members: $55, Non-Members $69

Offerings:  3rd and 4th Fridays each month: 7:00-9:00 PM
