A moderately paced series of yoga poses linked together in a sequence or flow, hence the sanskrit word “vinyasa”. Yoga, sanskrit word for “yolk”, meaning, the ‘yolking’ of body, mind, and soul through asanas (poses). This class invites climbers of all levels to attain overall balance and flexibility, both of the body and mind. We will focus specifically on opening and balancing climbing-specific areas- core, hips, shoulders and wrists and understand how Yoga principles can be applied to the mental aspect of climbing.

INSTRUCTORS

ERIN PICKENS Yoga Instructor Erin is a yoga instructor with a certification in power yoga. She began practicing yoga 8 years ago as a supplement to long distance running, but soon realized that yoga had so much more to offer than just ‘stretching’. By day she works as a Food Scientist and helps to develop a variety of bean-based foods that support an active lifestyle. She hopes that her classes will follow suit in promoting longevity through building strength and developing the mind-body connection.

REBEKAH LUHRs For Rebekah, teaching and practicing yoga is a lifestyle. As an individual, it is a way for her to push herself to grow both physically and spiritually. Based on a foundation of trust, communication, and support, the practice of AcroYoga empowers positive growth in individuals, relationships, and communities in the most fundamental ways. Ultimately this growth is what she is passionate about. Rebekah has been practicing yoga for almost ten years and completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification Training at the Asheville Yoga Center in North Carolina. She has been practicing AcroYoga since 2011 and is certified through AcroYoga International. Her and her partner, Frank Genovise, are avid climbers and like to spend time up at the Obed.
