Aleka started her home yoga practice at the age of 16. Five years later, she decided to take her yoga practice one step further and started yoga teacher training. Since then, hardly a day goes by that she does not practice yoga and Alexa loves sharing her love for yoga with family and friends (countless free private sessions have been given!). Aleka has experience teaching Paddleboard Yoga and she is looking forward to bringing yoga to those with involved in other sports, specifically hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists, climbers, runners, etc. as a supplement to improve the passions they are already pursuing.
Jessica began her journey with yoga in 2005. As a life-long competitive gymnast and athlete, she found that yoga met her need for a creative, mental, and physical challenge. After years of practice and recognizing all of the benefits of yoga on her whole person, she made the decision to deepen her study of all aspects of yoga and completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification Training in 2016. In October 2016 she attended a weekend immersion in teaching children’s yoga. Jessica is a Master’s level clinician who specializes in trauma, attachment, and development and works with children and families in therapeutic foster care. Teaching yoga has allowed her to expand her passion of teaching, helping, and understanding others in a way that also provides a much needed outlet for self-care. It allows her to slow down, focus on others, and continue to learn and grow through sharing her love for all things yoga. Her classes focus on the importance of mindfulness, breath, and focus to find hidden strength, balance, and awareness of the potential of the whole self.
Derek is originally from Berryville, VA and graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. His first night at ODU, he went to a climbing wall and experienced the sport for the first time. Having come from a very athletic background, he found it very humbling and more challenging than it initially appeared. He was instantly hooked and the rest is history. He developed a vast amount of knowledge in the sport and passion for training during his college years. He takes on every opportunity to travel to climbing competitions and to climb at outdoor crags and makes the absolute most of it. He accredits his climbing success to his somewhat unique style of training (ask him about it sometime!). He has now made his way to Knoxville, where he couldn't be happier to share his passion for climbing and training with the Onsight community.
